Chainsaw Training

We offer the full range of Chainsaw and tree-climbing units for tree surgeons and other users of chain saws.  Details are given below. Click here for specialist equipment and other courses

Courses for individuals are held on a number of different sites throughout the Kent area dependant on demand and the provision of suitable trees.

If you are an organisation or company with at least four people we can offer you a course on-site, throughout the UK at special rates. For further information please contact us.

All of the trainers who are used are registered with Lantra (Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the Environmental and Land-based Sector) and are also approved assessors with the National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC). They all have many years previous and present practical experience in tree surgery.

Courses offered:

A 5 day Chainsaw course covering Units 30 and 31, this covers trees whose effective diameter at felling height is between 200mm (8") and 380mm (15").

Especially for new users, we recommend that this course is split into two separate sessions:
Unit CS30 Basic chainsaw – Cross cutting - 2 days
Unit CS31
Basic chainsaw – Felling small trees - 4 days
The assessment can usually be arranged immediately after the training. For further information please contact us.

A 5 day Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Tree Rescue course.

A 3 day Operate the Chain Saw From a Rope and Harness course covering Unit 39. This course is for a competent Tree Climber well experienced at using the chain saw on the ground and already holding units 30, 31, (or 37) and Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Tree Rescue.

A 2 day Carry out Pruning Operations course covering the tuition for Unit 40. This is for an experienced person already holding units 30, 31, (or 37), Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Tree Rescue and 39.

A 2 day Carry out Dismantling Operations course covering the tuition for Unit 41. This is for an experienced person already holding units 30, 31, Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Tree Rescue and 39

Courses for Unit 32 and/or 33 can be offered on demand if the customer has access to suitable sized trees for felling. Unit 32 covers trees whose effective diameter at felling height is between 380mm (15") and 760mm (30") and Unit 33 covers trees whose effective diameter at felling height is over 760mm (30").

With all the above units assessment will take place after the course. Assessment and registration will be charged as an extra cost and fees will be from £50 - £200 per assessment dependant on the units taken. These fees set by the local Proficiency Test Committee.

Please note that attendance on a course does not necessarily mean that a person will pass the assessment; most people will need to practise before taking the test. For further information please contact us.
